Classic Halloween Tracks (Part One)

Halloween is creeping up on us fast, so get ready for a slew of inflatable bats, tragically rushed costumes and pound-shop rubber (which they dubiously claim is candy). To put you in the mood, we’ve lined up a list of the best classic Halloween tracks. It wouldn’t be a fright-fest without these tunes, it’d be pure Hell…oween.

Awesome music, awesome video directed by American Werewolf in London’s John Landis. ‘Thriller’ has the lot. But that’s exactly what you’d expect from ‘Prince of Pop’ Michael Jackson. The dance is iconic too, and bound to get your guests on the floor doing what we lovingly refer to as ‘that thing with your arms and legs.’ Even older members of your brood will be able to mimic those stiff stomps, and after enough time at the bar you’ll all perfect that glazed zombie look.

Danse Macabre

Ok, classical music doesn’t really have a reputation for being, y’know, danceable. But ‘Danse Macabre’, composed in 1872 by Camille Saint-Saens – which is about as French a name as you’ll ever see – is truly Halloween to its orchestral core. It’s based on the legend that Death appears each Halloween and commands the dead to rise. Once animated, the corpses will dance while he plays his fiddle. Which sort of proves that Death’s a cultural kinda guy.

The theme song to the awesomely awesome Ghostbusters has one of the most recognisable, and eerie, openings to any tune about a group of scientists who ain’t afraid of no ghost. Written and sung by that titan of music Ray Parker Jr, the video is basically a ‘who’s who’ of the 80’s, featuring a ton of Hollywood cameos, all being terrified out of their tiny celebrity minds. Better yet, once you get this track playing, everyone will be able to sing along! Who you gonna call…?
