Top 10 Karaoke Songs

When it comes to a karaoke party, there are some songs that are just so classic and so irresistible that somebody will always step up to sing them. Here’s a rundown of our top ten:

10 - Oasis – Wonderwall

A perfect song for karaoke, this is one of Oasis’ most popular songs, and is a great choice. Everybody loves to sing along to the simple yet memorable chorus.

9 - Alannah Myles – Black Velvet

Inspired by a trip to Graceland on the 10th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death, this 1989 hit by Canadian singer-songwriter Alannah Myles is a karaoke classic around the world, with a great chorus that’s a lot of fun to belt out.

8 - Bon Jovi – Living On A Prayer

Another hit from the eighties, Bon Jovi’s second single and first number one is a certain crowd pleaser, as you’re bound to get people joining in on the chorus.

7 - Shania Twain – Man I Feel Like A Woman

A popular hit for the country music star in 1999, this song is surprisingly popular with karaoke singers of both genders. The song has been called “country crossover at its best”, as it combines the popular and country genres seamlessly.

6 - Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’

Although Journey released this song back in 1981, it was its use in the TV show Glee that really popularised it for karaoke singers around the world.

5 - Robbie Williams – Angels

A modern classic, released in December 1997 and voted the best song of the past 25 years at the BRIT Awards, this is Robbie Williams’ best selling single. There aren’t many who can sing it like Robbie does – but there are plenty who would like to try.

4 - The Commitments - Mustang Sally

Because all you want to do is ride around, Sally! First recorded in 1965 by Mack Rice, it was brought to fame by Wilson Pickett the following year, but many people are familiar with this version, from the 1991 film The Commitments, as sung by Andrew Strong.

3 - Grease – Summer Nights

A great song for couples to duet, and get all their friends to join in with “Tell me more, tell me more” Made famous by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John with the release of the film in 1978, it’s a quintessential song that everybody knows and loves.

2 - Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody

One of the most recorded songs of the twentieth century, and one of the most frequently requested at karaoke parties. First recorded in 1955, it was the 1965 version by the Righteous Brothers that really catapulted this song into the limelight, and it became even more familiar when it featured in the 1990 film Ghost.

1 - Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive

It really couldn’t be anything else at number one, could it? Gloria Gaynor’s 1978 hit is a constant favourite at karaoke parties, and for many it’s so familiar that you won’t even need to look at the lyrics on the screen. It’s surprisingly difficult at the start though, as only the best singers can be sure of hitting the first notes accurately.
